improving well-being in the city

Through partnerships with service organizations, we are learning where and how to act in the city in order to improve well-being. Where we act is in the 100 distressed neighborhoods in Florida’s Orange and Seminole Counties. How we act is to strengthen these neighborhoods by improving existing programs and establishing new initiatives built on neighborhood assets.

Summit Church - Polis helps make their efforts to help others as dignifying and effective as possible by conducting volunteer training for niceSERVE events and reviewing benevolence requests. We also worked together to create a unique Thanksgiving day event where building relationships was the primary goal rather than merely handing out food (read more...)

Compassion Corner - Polis helps mobilize the homeless clients at the Corner to acts of service in the community (read more...). Director Phil Hissom teaches a Bible study every Tuesday at 8:30am. Come by the Corner and check us out (425 N. Magnolia, 32801)!

First Presbyterian Church Orlando - Polis is an official mission partner of FPCO, serves as a strategic consultant, and trains leaders in the Dignity Serves curriculum.

South Street Ministry - Polis is coaching leaders of this initiative from First United Methodist Church Winter park.

Rock Orlando  - Polis is guiding Rock Orlando leadership thorugh Asset Based Community Development training and providing strategic consultation for their Celebration Parramore initiative.

The Jobs Partnership of Florida - Polis is building 18 measurements of success as part of a comprehensive strategic plan that include long-term transformation measurements and signs of empowerment in the program (e.g. how many clients become volunteers).

Lifework Leadership - Polis teaches sections of this 9-month leadership development course and challenges the participants to commit to the distressed communities of Central Florida in a tangible way.

Vision 360 - Polis is providing research and demographic support for the Orlando area Vision 360 churches and is working with them on a new initiative to bring healing and hope to a particularly distressed area in Orlando.

Restore Orlando - Polis assisted Restore leadership with strategic planning efforts that resulted in greater focus for the organization and successful fundraising.

Passion to Action - Polis was truly inspired by the Loecken family's heart for service as we prepared them to incorporate the Dignity Serves principles into their mission and a custom curriculum. They inspire, empower, and mobilize people to put their faith into action as they travel across the country.

In addition to these working partnerships Polis has helped several churches and non-profits through training seminars, demographic information, presentations, and the Dignity Serves curriculum. Some of these include:
St. Luke's United Methodist,
Christ Kingdom,
River of Life,
Westwood,
Discovery,
Making Faith Matter,

City of Hope (Columbia, MD),
Grace (Rochester, NY),
Mission to North America,
