improving well-being in the city

Upon graduation, the student will have a firm grasp on the theories, practices and challenges of dignified community development.  With a strong emphasis on academic and experiential learning about how to build dignified interdependence, to recognize what improves personal, community and citywide well being, and to inspire others to share their talents and needs, students will be equipped to apply this learning in their personal life, in the work place and in ministry. 

Time Frame ::
  • 12 months in duration (Sept 1 - Aug 31)
  • Most major holidays will be observed with an additional 7-10 day break between each quarter
  • 25 hours a week minimum [Educational Emphasis Track add 5-10 hours]
  • Three trimesters which focus on individual, non-profit, and city well being
    • First Trimester (Months 1-4): Individual Well-being
    • Second Trimester (Months 5-8): Non-profit Well-being
    • Third Trimester (Months 9-12): City Well-being
Finances ::
  • Housing, transportation and personal expenses are the responsibility of the Student
  • Intensive Fees - $4200 for POLIS Institute CityWise Intensive
  • $600 additional if choosing an Educational Emphasis Track 
  • $500-700 for CCDA National Conference fees, travel and expenses
  • Fees are due in full by August 15
  • Student may elect to raise personal support
General outline of a 25-hour week ::
  • POLIS Institute Staff Meetings
  • Weekly Neighborhood Prayer Meetings
  • Monthly City-Wide Prayer Meetings
  • 1:1 Coaching with Executive Director and Founder/President
  • Volunteer weekly hours with POLIS Institute?s Collaborating Non-Profits
  • Direct experience with a church, ministry, or non-profit, adding tangible value to their work through what is learned at POLIS
  • Direct experience in a distressed neighborhood doing community listening [with the potential of basic Asset Mapping & Community Led Initiatives towards the end of the 12 month period]
  • Plus Reading/Study, Writing, Groups
